The part nobody reads until they need it

Booking, payment and cancellation

No small print, and no clauses that only make sense after something has gone wrong. Here is exactly when money is due and exactly what you get back if you cancel.

Paying for your trip

  1. 50% at the time of booking ($720 on the example below). That confirms your package. The rooms, the vehicle, the guide and the park permits are held in your name from that moment.
  2. The remaining 50% ($720) no later than 7 days before you travel. We will remind you; you will not be chased.
  3. Booking inside 7 days of travel means paying in full at the time of booking. At that notice we are buying the trip outright on your behalf.
One caveat on short notice. If you book within a week of travelling we cannot guarantee the exact hotel you asked for. We will arrange an alternative of the same standard and tell you what it is — not on arrival, but as soon as we know.

If you have to cancel

10% of the total tour price is non-refundable under any circumstance. That is the part already spent securing the booking. Beyond that, it depends entirely on how close to departure you are.

Worked on a real example: Thrill Island Quest, two travellers, $1,440.

When you cancelYou get backWe keep
More than 7 days before travel$1,296$144 (10%)
Within 7 days of travelNothing, unless a third-party provider offers one. This is why we recommend insurance.$1,440

Refunds are also reduced by anything a hotel or activity provider has already charged us and will not return. We pass those on at cost, with the supplier's own charge shown. We do not add a cancellation fee of our own on top.

If we have to change something

Occasionally a property becomes unavailable through no fault of anyone's. We reserve the right to substitute a hotel or service of equal or higher quality, never lower, and you will hear about it from us promptly, with the options in front of you.

What is on you

  • A valid passport, the right visa, and any vaccinations Sri Lanka requires at the time you travel. We will tell you what they are; we cannot hold them for you.
  • Travel insurance. We recommend it strongly enough to put it in the terms: cover for cancellation, delay, medical costs and baggage. Read the cancellation table above and you will see why.
  • International flights. Every journey here is a land package. Flights, visa fees and entrance fees to sites and parks are not included.

Liability, and which law applies

We take every reasonable step to make your trip safe and enjoyable, but we are not liable for injury, property damage, delay or inconvenience caused by third parties, natural events or force majeure. Every service is delivered subject to the terms of the supplier providing it.

These terms are governed by the laws of Sri Lanka and disputes are heard in Sri Lankan jurisdiction. That does not remove your rights at home — consumer protection legislation where you live applies to the sale regardless of where the trip is operated, and nothing on this page can sign it away.

This page summarises our Terms and Conditions in plain language. Where the summary and the full terms differ, the full terms govern. Write to [email protected] for a copy before you pay.

Questions travellers ask

How much do I pay to confirm a booking?

50% of the total is payable at the time of booking. That confirms the package. The rooms, the vehicle, the guide and the park permits are held in your name from that moment.

When is the balance due?

No later than 7 days before you travel. If you book inside 7 days of the travel date, the full amount is payable at the time of booking.

What happens if I cancel?

10% of the total tour price is non-refundable under any circumstance. Cancel more than 7 days before travel and the remainder is refunded, less any charges hotels or activity providers have already levied. Cancellations within 7 days of travel are not eligible for a refund unless a third-party provider offers one.

Can the hotels change after I book?

Only for an equal or higher standard, and only if the original becomes unavailable through circumstances outside our control. You are told promptly and given the available options.

Do I need travel insurance?

It is not compulsory, but we recommend it strongly. Cover for cancellation, delay, medical costs and baggage. The cancellation terms above are the reason.

Are international flights included?

No. Every journey is a land package. International flights, visa fees, entrance fees to sites and parks, and travel insurance are excluded.
